Practice

The first project that I assign students in my Raster Imaging course is to create a personal logo of their own in Photoshop. I've been known as JP most of my life, so my initials are easy to make into my personal logo. Those who know, know, you know?

Here's a messaround video of an idea I had at the breakfast table. I poked at it for about a half-hour to get to where I wanted it to be. In my own process, I have an idea, miiiight sketch it out (sorry students, the paper and pencil sketchbook method is absolutely the best place to start with your ideas), but sometimes I skip it 😬 and jump right in.

A lot of the time I think as I go, for better (mostly!) or worse. I often run into dead ends and have to undo and start over to get whatever look I see in my mind.

Here I'm using text, layers, layer groups, clipping masks, selections, strokes, and adjustment layers. The drawing is one I did in Illustrator not long ago, placed into this image.

I'm happy with the way this one turned out. Maybe I should have closed it with "P ractice!"
